 ■ Position of our Cluster

 The Northern Osaka Bio Medical Cluster covers a 20 km radius and includes Saito, a new development within the hills of Ibaraki and Minoh Cities, the Dosho-machi District, which houses a large number of pharmaceutical and other bio-related companies, as well as the research institutes located in Suita and Toyonaka Cities.  (location and access)

 ■ Accumulation of Pharmaceutical Companies 

　There are over 300 pharmaceutical companies in Osaka city, especially Dosho-machi （Dosho town） and its neighboring area.

　This history goes back to the Edo period（1603～） since the town flourished as medicine town as raw materials of medicine（ such as herbs）were priced and distributed in this area.

　Today, even after 350 years since, many large pharmaceutical companies such as Takeda, Mitsubishi Tanabe, Shionogi, Dainippon Sumitomo, and Ono call this town home.

　Osaka’s drugs and medicines manufacturing is Japan’s top in the industry（data from a study by Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, 2008）. It contributes greatly to Osaka’s economy as well as being the leader in Japanese pharmaceutical industry.

 ■Research Institutes

　At the science side, Osaka has a source of the life science field in Japan, and there are many institutes that have a long history in Northern Osaka.

　Thus Osaka becomes the environmental base to produce and foster biotechnology ventures that become the key of the growth of the biotechnology cluster.
 

 ■Osaka's Industries（ Mono Zukuri ）

　Osaka also has a high potential in medical devices, by the strength of manufacturing industries such as big consumer electronics industries and small and medium industries that are said to produce from toothbrushes to rockets and have high market share by unique technologies.

　Number of manufacturing industries is top in Japan. 10 percents of manufacturing industries are located in Osaka prefecture by calculation.

　Especially, factory density of Higashi-osaka city in the eastern part of Osaka pref. is top of Japan.
